Valentine’s Day cannot reflect love. It is a coercive cultural ritual that compels individuals to show affection with gifts and candy (people can buy whatever they want.) Individuals compel their partner to show their love. Philosophers work from principles, and reason, so I devised a syllogism on love that invalidates Valentine’s Day. Here is the proof:
Emotions cannot be coerced
And love is an emotion
Therefore, love cannot be coerced.
And working from that;
Love cannot reflect coercion,
And Valentines Day is coercive.
Therefore, Valentines Day cannot reflect love. People who think it does are sorely mistaken.
